Too Far Away

I can't get WBCQ on shortwave. I did hear Antenna 4 online. I live in Great Falls, Montana. I found out about WBCQ because it is listed in the A10 shortwave station database.

Hey Tony,
What kind of radio and antenna do you use? I never could pick up WBCQ on my little Sony ICF-SW7600GR and I live in Louisiana. I got better gear and started listening to them years ago and my world was rocked. I couldn't believe at that time there I was hearing Jimi Hendrix on shortwave.

Yup Tony... Dave was right. Try getting a good communications receiver. You can find nice ones like my Icom R75 used for 400 dollars or less if you look around. I've seen some other nice used ones for good prices on EBAY too. Also check places like Fair Radio, Universal Radio, etc for good deals on both new and used equipment. Check the hamfests, flea markets, garage sales, estate sales, etc. A friend of mine found a mint condition Sony 2010 receiver with owners manual at an estate sale for only five dollars. That's a real nice portable with killer reception for a real killer price.

Anyway a good receiver along with an external longwire, dipole, etc should bring in WBCQ and lots of other good stuff where a lower end portable using only the whip antenna just will not.
